Keep reading to learn more about the 2016 Subaru Impreza and the 2016 Mazda3.
Subaru Impreza vs. Mazda3 Performance
The 2016 Subaru Impreza is equipped with a 2.0-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine producing 148 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. The Impreza also comes standard with all-wheel drive, making it a consideration for those who may have been leaning towards a crossover or SUV. You have the option between a 5-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT), but the manual option is not available on top Limited Trims. The Impreza handles well, accelerates quickly and is an outstanding option for maneuvering through the roads of Syracuse, Liverpool and Oneida.Â
The 2016 Mazda3 provides a good driving experience with either the 2.-liter inline-4 or the 2.5-liter version, and also gives the choice between a 6-speed automatic and a 6-speed manual. Though the Mazda3 handles well, the electric power steering system is less than accurate.
Exterior/Interior
The 2016 Subaru Impreza has the typical body style of a Subaru, but streamlines the model in some areas. Choose between a five-door hatchback and a four-door sedan. Both styles have the same eye-catching grille with headlights updated last year. Within the Impreza's cabin, it's basic and functional with simple interior trims and material.
With the Mazda3, you also have the choice between a sedan or a hatchback. Its overall design is contemporary and attractive, with sweeping lines and swooping details that give it a sports car appearance. Inside the cabin, the details are more muted and the glossy black trims make it look a bit cheap.
Technology
The standard technology features included in the 2016 Subaru Impreza include air conditioning, cruise control, a rearview camera, power accessories, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, a USB port, an auxiliary jack and even iPod controls. The base infotainment system also is up to par with a 6.2-inch touchscreen that includes Subaru's Starlink smartphone and app integration. What more could you want?
While the Mazda3 offers many useful features, most of them aren't available on the base models.
Subaru Safety
Subarus are known for their safety, and the Impreza is no exception. A standard set of airbags also includes a seventh for the driver's knee protection. A rearview camera is also standard, while Premium and Limited models have EyeSight safety systems that include adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning and automatic emergency braking. The Impreza was also named a Top Safety Pick+, earning "Good" scores in all tests.
The Mazda3 has also been named a Top Safety Pick+. However, the Mazda3 lacks the Eyesight safety technology found in the Subaru Impreza, as well as the advanced STARLINK technology also found in Subaru vehicles.
