Subaru Impreza Dashboard Light Guide

Driving around Oneida, Liverpool, and Syracuse, you may have noticed some dashboard lights in your Subaru Impreza turn on. These lights are trying to give you some indications to things that might be wrong with your vehicle. Simply ignoring them or hoping they go away can be dangerous to both you and your vehicle.

Here are the meanings of some of the more common lights and what you should do about them.

Coolant Temperature Low/High

This light is an indication that the coolant in your Subaru Impreza's engine is the wrong temperature. It will likely be either red or blue. Red means that the coolant temperature is too high. Blue means it's too low and isn't heating up to proper temperatures.

If this light comes on and turns red while you're driving or is blinking red, it can be an indication of serious problems. Stop operating your vehicle as soon as you safely can and have your system checked by a Subaru dealer.

Subaru Impreza Battery Charge Dashboard Warning

This light will illuminate if you're using the accessories in your Subaru Impreza while the car isn't running to show that there's a drain on the battery. It should turn off when the car is started and the engine is running.

If this light doesn't turn off while the engine is running, it may be an indication of a problem with the charging system. Your battery can sustain your engine for a short distance but not long. Have a Subaru dealer check your charging system as soon as you can.

Tire Pressure Warning Light in the Subaru Impreza

This light comes on to indicate that the pressure in one or more of your tires is low. If the temperature outside has recently gotten colder, this is a normal side effect. If the weather hasn't changed, this light might be an indication that you have a leak in one of your tires.

Head to the nearest gas station to fill your tire (or tires) to the proper pressure. You can find out what that pressure is by looking inside the driver's door panel at the sticker with the recommended pressures.

SRS Airbag Warning System

This light indicates an issue with your SRS airbag system. It may also indicate problems with the seatbelt pre-tensioners. If you see this light turn on, you want to have it checked out as soon as possible by a Subaru dealer. This light indicates that your airbag system or your seat belts aren't working properly and need maintenance. They may not deploy as expected if there's a collision.
