Subaru Legacy Efficiency
Outstanding MPG has become a standard feature of the Legacy, and it has the specs to back it up.
In the base, Premium, Sport, and Limited trim levels, paired with a 2.5L engine, the Legacy gets an EPA-estimated 27 city/35 highway MPG.*Â For the Limited XT and Touring XT, you'll see an EPA-estimated 24 city/32 highway MPG alongside a 2.4L turbocharged engine.*
Much of the difference between the fuel efficiencies of the Subaru Legacy does come from the different engines. Otherwise, the six available trims share a Lineartronic® CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) with Adaptive Control and 8-speed manual mode. Every Legacy trim level also comes with standard Symmetrical Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD).
Subaru Legacy Engine Specs
In just about any Subaru vehicle, fuel efficiency and MPG are almost always the leading highlights. That trusted Subaru MPG, however, is only made possible by what's under the hood.
For the Legacy, you'll find two powerful engine options doing the heavy lifting. Depending on the trim level you choose, you're either going to find a 2.5L SUBARU BOXER® 4-cylinder engine or a 2.4L turbocharged SUBARU BOXER® 4-cylinder engine.
The difference between these two engines is in the details. The 2.5L engine-featured in the base, Premium, Sport, and Limited trim levels-is capable of 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, the 2.4L turbocharged option of the Limited XT and Touring XT trims can achieve 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque.
So, while both engines feature some powerful outputs, there's also some slight variation in the efficiency of the two.
Additional Subaru Legacy Performance
On top of its high-powered engines and efficient MPG, the Subaru Legacy is loaded with additional features to boost the overall performance of your vehicle.
Working in sync with the Symmetrical AWD system of the Legacy are advanced control systems like the standard Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) with stability control and an all-speed Traction Control System. Active Torque Vectoring works hand in hand with the VDC to provide better handling and more neutral steering.
These systems, alongside several others, all can play a major role in improving the MPG of your Subaru Legacy. With already great fuel efficiency, it's a relief to know that other standard systems within the vehicle have your back.
