As the newest model in Subaru's lineup, the 2020 Ascent brings the same capabilities and efficient performance to the roads of Syracuse, Oneida, and Liverpool, NY, in a larger package. Subaru has always been a top contender when it comes to accommodating families and outdoorsy folk alike. This SUV is spacious enough for your entire family, their camping equipment, or Sunday's groceries.

We at Bill Rapp Subaru wanted to give you the quick need-to-know information on the Subaru Ascent's specs and general performance. Continue reading to discover what the Ascent can bring to your home.

Power Highlights

Subaru offers one powerful engine for the Ascent that's ready for any journey. This 2.4L DOHC turbocharged engine is mated to a Lineartronic® Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). This model generates 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque, so you can expect it to handle snowy highways and debris-laden backroads.

Thanks to an 8-speed manual mode with paddle shifters, you'll have more control over your driving experience. Luckily, the CVT is designed to maximize efficiency. That's why the Ascent retains a good fuel economy of 21 city/27 highway MPG while giving drivers enough power to go anywhere.

The 2020 Ascent was built with do-it-yourself types in mind. Rocks, logs, and streams be easier to cross thanks to a ground clearance of 8.7 inches and 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. Combine this with the Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and various traction control systems and you'll be prepared for any trail.

In addition to the all-wheel drive, the Ascent has an X-MODE® component that's meant to optimize engine output and transmission ratio. It also increases the utility of all-wheel drive and works with the Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) to reduce individual wheelspin on slippery surfaces.

For your hauling needs, the Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) will automatically apply braking if the system notices unsafe driving conditions. This will be useful whether you have the base level Ascent with a 2,000-pound towing capacity or the increased 5,000-pound maximum capacity starting in the Premium trim.

Interior Design

The Ascent is an 8-passeger SUV with ample passenger and storage space. Front-seated passengers can enjoy 41.3 inches of headroom and 42.2 inches of legroom and the overall passenger volume is a large 153.5 cubic feet. Neither of the rear rows were forgotten when it comes to comfort. The second row has 40.0 inches of headroom and 38.6 inches of legroom while the passengers in the third row have 36.3 inches of headroom and 31.7 inches of legroom.

Cargo space isn't an issue either. Behind the second row, you'll get 47.5 cubic feet for the kids' club soccer equipment. If you need even more room for a home project, fold down the rear seats for 86.5 cubic feet of storage.
