Over 150 Years in the Making

When The Mission first opened its doors in 2000, it started the next chapter of this 150-year-old building. First built in the 1840s as the Syracuse Wesleyan Methodist Church, the building has transformed over the years, including serving as a waystation for the Underground Railroad. Today, it houses what Syracuse patrons know and love as The Mission Restaurant.

Head chef and owner Steve Morrison was a student at Syracuse University when he got a job as kitchen manager at a café on campus. He spent the next decade or so working as a kitchen manager and starting a partnership to form Syracuse's first wood-fired pizza shop, MOVINO, which led him to open The Mission at the start of this century.

A Taste of Mexico

The Mission holds a high standard when it comes to its food, which is why they only use the freshest ingredients. As often as possible, they use local products and they source only the finest specialty ingredients. Their menu changes with the seasons, further instilling their desire to create meals from the freshest food possible.

Dine in or take out for lunch, dinner, and even Sunday brunch! Frequent lunch patrons can pick up a lunch punch card. Each time you visit The Mission for lunch, have your card punched, so you can enjoy your 10th lunch on the house!

Whether you're in the mood for a small bite or a full meal, you'll leave The Mission Restaurant satisfied. Vegetarian, vegan, and even gluten-free meals are available. Thanks to these options, everyone will be able to enjoy The Mission regardless of dietary restrictions.

Getting Creative

Due to the location of The Mission, they are unable to serve alcohol other than wine and beer due to a prohibition-era law. Because of this, they have a vast selection of draft beers and an extensive assortment of wine from California and South America.

In order to serve liquor-based cocktails, such as margaritas, Pina coladas, and daiquiris, The Mission has partnered with Premium Blends, a small Miami company that creates spirits made from wine. While they're slightly different from your usual mixed drink, these wine-based cocktails are the perfect complement to your Latin American dish.
